911- A Tribute to my friend Laura Kennedy

I remember 911 oh to well.   I was at work.  I worked at a vocational program for mentally disabled adults.  We had caught wind about the plane hitting one of the twin towers and tuned our television in to monitor what was happening.

What we were about to see was beyond what I could have ever imagined.  People running frantically in the streets of NYC.  The streets were filled with smoke and debris.  As the coverage continued and the day went on there was more footage to see.  It was devastating to me being miles away in Massachusetts that I couldn’t even imagine being on the forefront.  Seeing all the debris and the search efforts trying to find survivors was very upsetting to me but I was also thankful for all that came together in such a time of need.

I immediately was concerned and hoped and prayed that no one I knew was on that flight or within Towers when it occurred.  At that time and to my knowledge no one was.

I recently found out that a dear friend of mine Laura Kennedy was in Tower 2 when the attack occurred and thank god she made it out and is here today to talk about it.  Many of you may know Laura on twitter as @laurakennedy and she is also the host of LauraKennedyLive an online talk show.  Laura is a retired Senior Navy Chief of 21 years and was not in uniform when the attack occurred.  Laura is a great friend, mentor, and inspiration to many of us.

Laura has posted a video of her life’s mission here:  Flags For Freedom.  Scroll down and on the left sidebar under videos and please watch “Our Flag Stands For Freedom”.  Grab some kleenex cause it made me cry.

Laura, I want to thank you personally for all that you have done for our country and for sharing your story with us.  I am sure it was not easy for you.

I am blessed to have you in my life and you are someone that I look to for guidance and inspiration always!

With Love

Darcee :)
